A Giving Heart

Lead SA Hero
Dr Rivka Hoosain is one of the Lead SA heroes. She graduated with her MBChB in 2011 and has since completed her community service years. Despite all odds, she managed to complete her studies and be the first medical doctor in her family. #LeadSAHeroes Apart from her full-time job, she started her own small free clinic for the Tafelsig community where she has started using time during the week in the evenings to offer free consultations to the people of Tafelsig. Lead SA salutes Rivka for her amazing work.

Gestational Diabetes
Gestational diabetes: High blood sugar (glucose) that develops during pregnancy and disappears after birth. It can happen at any stage of pregnancy but is more common in the second or third trimester. It happens when your body cannot produce enough insulin – a hormone that helps control blood sugar levels – to meet your extra needs in pregnancy. Gestational diabetes can cause problems for you and your baby during pregnancy and after birth. But the risks can be reduced if the condition is detected early and well managed.
